Fern Hill Park was a success.

The trip to Fern Hill Park was a success. Craig, the owner, was excellent. He was attentive and keen to get us settled. Once we were settled he just left us be. If we had any questions he was easy to find.

The owners of Butinga Wilderness Park are understandably disappointed about the local council's decision to suspend paid camping on their property. If you send them an email (info@butinga.com.au) they will let you know when camping resumes. It looks like some good camping.

Fern Hill Park

This weekend I think we will travel North to Fern Hill Park. It's about 30 kilometres from Gunalda or 50 kilometres North of Gympie, Qld. It will be drier than the pictures as we haven't had much rain but I am hoping that they will have some water in the dams and creeks. I'll report back on Monday or Tuesday... or Wednesday if it's really good. :)

Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia

The CMCA offers (not an exhaustive list):
. a monthly magazine
. advice and hints
. chapter and national rallies
. insurance cover (without exclusions for 4x4 activity)
. national free camping advice and support
. dump point co-ordination

The Zu is insured with Ken Tame and Associates. Insurance is available to CMCA members. The insurance is designed for motorhoming as it is a combination of travel, vehicle and contents insurance.

Where would you go in a 4x4 motorhome?

On the 29th and 30th of September we went to Land Cruiser Mountain Park in The Zu. The camping was great. We were able to have a camp fire with collected fallen timber. I cooked a fantastic baked lamb shank diner with the camp oven. We drank lots of wine and stayed up late looking for satelites and meteorites. After diner the moon came up so I got the camera out and took a few shots. I attribute the success of this shot to all the wine. :)

All Terrain Warriors

The guys at All Terrain Warriors, Yandina, Qld, make some serious off road motorhomes (as mentioned in The Sunshine Coast Daily). They're not cheap, they are fantastic!

A custom made Isuzu NPS250 with a BushTracker

Brian and Norma Harrison retired in style in their off road Motorhome.

Here is a rundown on the Isuzu NPS250 and -300. This is also the vehicle (although a newer model) that my motorhome is built on.

Why?

Information about motorhoming is difficult enough to find. Then, if you introduce elements of four wheel driving you are in big trouble. It is like it doesn't exist. So, I decided to create a blog to bring some of this information together.

You may well ask: 'Why a four wheel drive motorhome?' Often it is just to go a little further. It can turn a car park into a secluded beach. People think it is about traversing deserts and bogged up to your windows in mud but, for me, it is just being able to set up on the beach for the day or feeling confident in a camp ground when it rains. A two wheel drive motorhome can fail to gain traction on wet grass.

So, as I surf around I'll post links to sites related to four wheel drive motorhoming.
